MU grad and well-recognized harpsichordist to perform at Mizzou

leave a comment »

Trevor Stephenson, a 1981 Mizzou grad, will be coming back to campus this weekend.

The talented harpsichordist will perform on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in Whitmore Recital Hall. Stephenson will play on a harpsichord, a replica of an instrument built around 1680. He will perform parts of Bach’s “The Well-Tempered Clavier.”

It is rare enough that a musician would be so devoted to playing the harpsichord and the fortepiano–an early piano. But Stephenson is enamored with them, generally only playing on historical instruments or replicas at his shows.

Additionally, Stephenson will give a lecture on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Whitmore. Then he will give a masterclass on playing Baroque and Classical pieces on a modern piano at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in Whitmore.

This is a University of Missouri School of Music event, also sponsored by the Mid-Missouri Music Teachers Association and Missouri Music Teachers Association.
